One of the main attractions that embrace the cultural and historical aspect of Togo is the national museum situated in LomΓ© at the Congress Palace near the Independence Square, opposite the hotel February 2. The national museum was founded in 1975 and it houses ethnographical, cultural and artistic exhibits. This museum is something different from other museums that people might have previously visited, the reasons are many. The size of the museum is not very huge and that allows to explore the prehistorical and colonial era wings very easily. The most attractive part is the informative collection of paintings, pottery, textiles, and musical instruments. These artefacts represent an important evidence to a relatively poorly documented national history. At the museum the way in which the past and recent history are represented is very interesting. There are beautiful painted maps and Togo’s history is represented by old photos and drawings that immediately catch the eyes' attention. Furthermore, the museum is organised in two rooms. In the first room it is possible to admire tools, statues, jewels, musical instruments, objects dating back thousands of years and much more. The second room in the lower section recounts the history of Togo until recent years, giving details about history of the colonies, the battle of these borders and the independence of the country. The national museum was an incredible experience and it does not take very much time to visit. That is why the national museum needs to be part of every tourist’s itinerary.
